Truely Pictures and changes

Finally, here are the pictures of the place we are building. Well, the lot at least.
The first picture is from the top of the hill looking out at the road. The road curves around to the left and that is where the entrance will be. Those trees will be staying.
The middle picture is a view from halfway up the hill. The trees on the left will be thinned so we have some view but most of the ones at the back will be felt as awind break. The road is off screen to the left.
The last one is of my youngst son (who is 4 )with the horse we use to skid out the trees. The horse is really gentle. Well, really gentle with kids and women, he is not to fond of men and will run at them. We call him our guard horse. He is over 2200 lbs, so having him run at you can be quite frightening. Be hind the horse is the barn and the hill with the lot on it is to the right.
More pictures to come if we go up this weekend. They are calling for 23 to 30 cm of snow (which is 12 inches I think, I don't work well with conversions). I hope to get a picture of the big piles of logs we have skidded. Plus my beautiful black eye.
The rope I ran into with the skidoo was the same size as the one my son is holding onto. Always wear a helmet kids.
My husband has changed his mind again (and they say women can't make up their minds, HA). He has now decided he wants to do 5x3 inch logs and then tongue and groove the 3 inch side. So now we are looking at the easiest way to do this. Either using a router with a dado, or a tablesaw with a dado or with a planer/moulder. They all have pros and cons. The one my husband likes is the last one as we can get custom blades made so each log only needs 2 passes. Needless to say , it is the most expensive. But 2400 feet of logs will take some time to work.

I think that I shall never see....

...a poem as lovely as a tree. Or more precisely, a pile of of logs. We are up to 123 logs approximately. We are guestimating cause some are buried under the snow. We are getting close to the total we need. We are looking to cut about 230 trees so that we have enough for wastage. But it won't really be waste because we will be heating with wood and we will sell any leftover full length logs to the local mill.
Luckily we have had a thaw so more felling is being done. This time my FIL and I were using the tractor to get some trees on the edge of the fields. We don't want to make them fall onto the field because of the mess the limbs would make. What we do is we drive the tractor close to the tree and rest the bucket about 7 feet up the tree. We then notch the tree and push it over with the tractor, into the woods. We did about 4 trees before I tripped and cut my knee quite badly on something in the snow. We think it might have been some hidden barbed wire. We don't use it but they used to about 50 yrs ago and we are still coming across it. Luckily my chainsaw was off and away from me or who knows what would have happened. This was on top of me running into a rope strung between 2 fence posts while on the snowmobile. Luckily I was going slowly, and it caught me across the forehead, but I have a lovely black eye. I'll post a picture once my husband shows me how. I may be able to work in the bush but the computer still confuses me. Next weekend more trees will be cut, and we will check the gully to see it the ground is frozen enough yet to pull out some trees. Hopefully it will get colder, as it is only -15 degrees Celsius.
After all my accidents I forgot to take pics of the pile of logs we have, and me in my bush working gear. Very feminine.

PICTURES!

Ok. Not quite pictures, but I did get a digital camera for Christmas and as soon as I figure out how to upload the pictures onto my blog I will do so. Myabe I can get my oh so computer savvy husband to help, but right now he is watching the world juniors play hockey. Anybody have any hints as to how to do this? I got some gorgeous pictures of the hill we are going to build on. I also took a picture of the horse we are using for skidding. With my 3yo as a size marker.

The snow put paid to anymore cutting of trees. We tried to limb some trees but it is hard to do when the snow is up to midthigh. And I'm not exagerating here. We have had almost a meter and a half of snow (That is almost 5 feet). So we are hoping for an early spring. We almost have all the trees we need anyway. They are just buried.
